Let the journey begin...

A Princess in the Making...

Yesterday I decided to take a step that is long overdue.  I have let my life get out of control.  I have let myself go.  I don't look in the mirror and see that beautiful girl I once was.  I see years of unhealthy eating, little or no exercise, post pregnancy baby weight, years of night shift, low self confidence and much more.

So why "A Princess in the Making?"  Well I hear my daughter tell me every day what princess I should be.  I always tell her she is the princess but I am determined to be that princess too.

How am I going to do this?

The first step.....NO MORE NIGHT SHIFT!
I have already taken this step.  I contribute a huge amount of my weight gain to this.  I had to eat to stay awake.  I was tired all the time.  I had no energy and no motivation to exercise.  Now, I'm off night shift I have more energy and now realize how tired I really was.

The second step...EXERCISE!
I joined back to the YMCA.  I hated to pay the money but realized that I wouldn't do it on my own.  I feel like I get support there just by walking in and seeing people I know.  Today's support was great.  I ran into a very sweet lady Karen who gave me the thumbs up and said you can do this.  I don't think she realized how much that meant to me.  It gave me a little more motivation to do just a little more today.  I look forward to more motivation and more support from those around me.

The third step...HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES!
Running out the door after sleeping all day then stopping at a fast food joint isn't going to cut it any more.  I am going to be better about meal planning.  I'm going to pack my lunch and snacks for work.  I'm going to cut out as much Diet Pepsi as I can and replace it with water.

The final step...LOVE MYSELF AGAIN!
I am going to learn to love myself again.  I'm going to look in the mirror and like what I see.  I'm going to be a better mommy and a better wife.  I'm going to be an all around better me.

Here I go...

So here I go...I'm on a mission.  My initial goal is to take off 20 lbs in the next 2 months, go to the gym 4 times a week and drink 10 glasses of water a day.  I'm going to cook at home and not eat out.  My long term goal is 120 lbs. which would put me at a healthy BMI.  Is that obtainable?  Not really sure but I'm going to take baby steps to get as close as I can.

Addiction...

I want to get back to my blog because, well, I've not written anything in well over a year. Writing helps me and I just need to get back to it. In that year I have put on some of my weight. How much...oh, like 35 pounds! Some of that is from my hormonal change after a hysterectomy. Some of that is stress. But most of that is my addiction. My name is Shannon and I'm addicted to food. Yes, addicted to food. It is my drug of choice. I'm not addicted to healthy foods. I'm addicted to sweets to the point that I have days that I eat nothing but sweets. I have tried several medications to help me but none have helped so far. I am going to be working on myself again and working to overcome this addiction. It is so hard but I can do it.

Trying something new...

So I stopped at Sam's Club to pick up some veggies. I saw a large bag of Brussels sprouts. They were about $4 so I thought what the heck, I'll give them a try. Steven researched ways to cook them and we decided to roast them in the oven. We added a little olive oil and the garlic seasoning from the Melting Pot. OMG! They were great! I never thought I'd like them but I did. A healthy, inexpensive, tasty side dish. I'm glad I found something new and tried it.
